Curb and gutter is drainage infrastructure that happens to look like edging. When flow line grade is wrong, water ponds — and ponding is what destroys asphalt from the edges inward.

We survey existing flow lines before pricing the work, because the fix for standing water at a curb is frequently upstream of where the water is actually standing.

What causes puddles to form in a parking lot?

Usually grade — either an original design that did not establish enough fall, or settlement that has flattened or reversed it. Successive overlays can do the same by raising the surface relative to the drainage. Puddles are worth taking seriously because they accelerate pavement breakdown and can conceal potholes.
